Dear Reader,
I hope you are well and healthy. Even if we are still surrounded with the pandemic, life is slowly returning to its usual course and social events are starting to happen again, although modestly. We marked our 15th anniversary appropriately on World Vexillology Day, 1 October, at the auxiliary history sciences section during the 6th Croatian Historians Congress held in Rijeka. We had a chance to attend by video-conferencing several meetings world-wide that were at least locally held live. We are eagerly preparing for the 29th International Congress of Vexillology in Ljubljana next year.
In this issue of our journal, we provide both contributions that you, hopefully, expect as continuations of series we follow together, as well as presenting some new contents. For this issue Galović prepared his 20th lexicon entry on possibly the best-known Croatian heraldist, Pavao Ritter Vitezović. Some exceptionally interesting coats of arms of Croatian noblemen and ecclesiastic dignitaries from an almost unknown source from the end of the 16th century are presented to us by Peran. Kuščić comes with another story on a family from Brač and its coat of arms, while Todorović has a new installment on flags from portolans. After a series of articles on military flags, this time Hovat points out a
vexillological phenomenon that he noticed in the given period, that may stretch through Croatia’s entire military history in one way or another and merits some good attention and illumination.
An article from media regarding the modern use of flags in Croatian indicating some current dilemmas on minority flags is reprinted here. Vitez indicates another example of public use of
coats of arms in his region. And that is not all.
Let the incoming holidays bring us a considerably better and nicer year, first of all health and happiness, and then a lot of success researching heraldic and vexillological heritage.
