Attending the Flag Institute Annual General Meeting 2022

FIThe president of HGZD and the International Federation of Vexillological Associations (FIAV) Heimer participated at the British Flag Institute (FI) Annual General Meeting and Winter Conference,
held at the People’s History Museum in Manchester, UK on 20 November 2021. The meeting and conference took place in a hybrid format with on-site and on-line video participation.

After Flag Institute President Malcolm Farrow opened the event, the Annual Meeting proceeded in accordance with the published agenda. The association leadership submitted their reports (president, membership administrator, librarian, journal editor, webmaster, and treasurer), and three of the six-member Board of Trustees were reelected to new terms.

The Winter Conference followed with four lectures of some 45 minutes each. The FI Chief Vexillologist Graham Bartram provided an update on vexillological events that took place in the United Kingdom in 2021. Visual artist Luke Jerram presented a number of his art projects and installations that explore the
concept and meaning of flags. John Cartledge spoke about the flag adoption process that he helped coordinate for the community of Elstree and Borehamwood, and Dr. Matthew Stallard lectured on
the recently adopted flag of the Black Country region and the controversy it has attracted in the past several years.
