The 30th International Congress of Genealogic and Heraldic Sciences was held in Maastricht, the Netherlands, 24 to 28 September 2012, with the theme “Frontiers in Genealogy and Heraldry”. The Congress hosts were the Dutch Genealogical Association (NGV) and the Dutch Central Office for Genealogy (CBG), together with the International Genealogical and Heraldic Confederation (CIGH), the International Genealogical Academy (AIG), and the International Heraldic Academy (AIH). During the opening ceremony, the Congress was proclaimed opened by HRH Prince of Orange, William Alexander, the Dutch heir apparent.
The paper „Heraldry at the Edge of Science: Thesis about Meaning of the Croatian chequy Shield“ by Dubravka Peić Čaldarović and Nikša Stančića was presented at the Congress by Željko Heimer. He also exhibited a poster with current Croatian municipal arms, showing the high quality of modern Croatian heraldry and its rightful place in contemporary European heraldry. In the Congress lobby, HGZD publications were displayed to the international scientific and expert audience.
The General Assemblies of the Confederacy and the two Academies convened during the Congress. At the Confederacy General Assembly the Bulgarian Heraldic and Vexillological Association, among others, was admitted to membership. The International Heraldic Academy confirmed the associate member status of those admitted last year in Fribourg: Heimer and two of our foreign members – Valt Jurečić from Slovenia and Jovan Jonovski from Macedonia.
