Dr. Mario Jareb recently issued a book titled Croatian National Symbols, where is endeavored to present new knowledge on the origins and development of the Croatian coat of arms and flag. He touched many aspects of the issue including controversies that accompany it. These are in the first place even today actual discussion regarding the colour of the first field of the Croatian chequy coat of arms, and especially in this regard the stereotypes on the “Ustashi” character of such arms staring with the white cheque. Therefore the centre of the lecture shall indeed be the issue of the first colour of the chequy shield and the mentioned stereotype.
