The HGZD president visited the flag exhibition in the Museum of Slavonia in Osijek on 10 February 2018. There he was cordially hosted by the exhibition author and the curator of the Osjek museum flags collection Ante Grubišić. The exhibition displays almost forty flags from the Museum collection, exhibited in the great hall in the attic of the museum edifice.
Most of the exhibited flags were entirely restored in the last two decades, as a result of continuous effort of the custodian and the Musuem management to preserve these fabulous examples of luxurious flags, mostly from the 19th and the first half of the 20th century. Some examples reach the dimensions up to 4 meters, and majority is decorated with intricate Slavonian golden embroidery and have painted central panel. Some flags are displayed hanging, but most of the delicate flags were set upon a slanted backing, enabling visitors to closely inspect the quality and extraordinary love involved in their making.
The exhibition is accompanied with a rich catalogue in large dimensions on 120 pages depicting high.quality photographs of all exhibited flags, with professional analysis and the full catalogue. Thus the second largest Croatian museum flag collection obtained in this catalogue, by the author and editor Ante Grubišić, a worthy successor to the 1996 catalogue by Jelena Borošak Marijanović of the largest flag collection in the Croatian History Museum. This is enough said for any connoisseur of Croatian vexillology.
