We are noting you with sorow that Prof. Dr. Sc. Josip Kolanović (83) died in Zadar. Prof. Kolanović was a member of the HGZD Court of Honor, an esteemed Croatian archivist and historian. He was an initiator of revival of modern Croatian municipal heraldry and vexillology in mid-1990s. Through his efforts, as director of the Croatian State Archives, he initiated establishment of an expert body at the Ministry of Administration guiding and controling adoption of coats of arms and flags by units of local self-government, thus shaping the Croatian municipal heraldic and vexillological practice. Since the formation of the Commission for Evaluation in Units of Local Self-Government Coats of Arms and Flags Approval Process until his retirement in 2003 we was its prominent member.

In his career, he was a director of the Croatian State Archives (1991 – 2003), held numerous functions and offices, he was engaged in varios projects in the field. He was awarded a number of domestic and foreign awards and decorations.
