The Croatian Heraldic and Vexillological Association in co-operation with the Society of Brethren of the Croatian Dragon had the pleasure to host the acknowledged Croatian heraldic artist working in Sweden, Mr. Davor Zovko, who held a series of lectures in the attractive premises of the Dragon Tower over the Stone Gates in Zagreb, on Thursday, 8 June 2017.
Following a brief introduction by the Master of Ceremonies of the Society, the Dragon of Brač II, Josip degl’Ivellio, Zovko first held a lecture titled »Heraldry – Newly Discovered Treasure« at 19h. He presented in a popular manner the basic heraldic rules, with numerous examples from his rich heraldic opus.
Afterwards, at 20h, following a brief address by the HGZD president Željko Heimer, Zovko held the so called Master Class, under a nostalgic title »Little Secrets of Great Masters of Heraldry«. It provided overview of some specific practical heraldic rules, targeted first of all for the more experienced heraldists and heraldic artists, where he presented some exceptional examples of his esteemed colleagues artists, spicing it with some of his own, highlighting what one should care about when composing or depicting a coat of arms. He pointed out some details, often hidden from unexpired eye, that make the design a pearl of heraldic art.
On the previous day, in the same premises, in the organization of the Society of Brethren of the Croatian Dragon, Zovko presented his recent book »Knighthood Today«, that we also recently wrote about.
