»The Identity of Military Nobility in Croatia from the Austrian-Hungarian Compromise to the Break-Up of the Monarchy« – Matea Brstilo Rešetar, curator of the Heraldry and Sphragistics Collection in the Croatian History Museum, HGZD secretary

The lecture held during the recently finished 29th International Congress of Genealogic and Heraldic Sciences, Stuttgart, 2010, considers the status of the military nobility in Croatia after the dualization in 1867. These Austrian-Hungarian officers of Croatian origin participated in wars the Monarchy lead trying to resolve its Eastern Question and then in the First World War. With diplomatic and heraldic analysis of the armorial patents from the Croatian History Museum collection, granted between 1867 and 1918, the author indicates the elitist military circle with particular world-view, having centrifugal influence to the difficult national integration processes, following the foreign policy goals of the Monarchy.
