The Croatian Heraldic and Vexillological Association held its 25th Tribune on Monday 18 June 2018 in the Bogdan Ogrizović Library in Zagreb, when Antonio grgić from Koprivnica gave lecture titled »Contemporary Heraldry and Identity Construction of the Podravina and Prigorje Region«.

With the establishment of the Republic of Croatia and formation of counties in the 1990s, new units of regional self-government were formed, being as regions characterized with particular geographic, economic and sociocultural attributes. However, some of the new regions had no previously established unique identity, but they were heterogeneous on several levels. One of such is also the Koprivnica and Križevci County, encompassing two regions: Podravina and Prigorj. The design of the coat of arms and the flag for the new county was the basis for further development of the county and regional identity. certainly its visual part of the identity. The making of the coat of arms and flag used the heraldic elements from historical coats of arms, but also using elements of local art tradition (naive painting), industrial heritage (marketing communication of the Podravka food industry), and the historical legend of “Picok” (a rooster used during the Ottoman siege of Đurđevac). Thus the heraldically established identity became the base for further development of visual identity for the newly formed county and the region.
