Lecture by Heimer at Salon Matice hrvatske, 26.11.2009

SALON MATICE HRVATSKE

has the honour to invite you
to the lecture by

Željko Heimer

THE COATS ΟF ARMS AND THE FLAGS
OF THE CITY OF ZAGREB

Captain Željko Heimer, MSc, graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, where he also got his master of science degree in 2005. He is an active officer of the Croatia Armed Forces working in the General Staff. For the last fifteen years he actively pursues the study of coats of arms and flags, especially those of the Croatian cities and communities, publishing his findings on the web site http://zeljko-heimer-fame.from.hr and in a number of Croatian and international journals. He participated in five international vexillologic congresses and he is an active member of international vexillologic associations. He is one of the initiators and the first chairman of the Croatian Heraldic and Vexillologic Association and the editor of the semiannual scientific and popular journal “Grb i Zastava”.

Beside a number of scientific, professional and popular articles, in 2009 he published the book on the coat of arms and the flag of Croatia, and recently his second book on the coats of arms and the flags of the City of Zagreb. There he provides a detailed review of the development of the city symbols through history, based on legislative and official determinations, but also based on variants used in practice. Despite all the changes that the Zagreb symbols went through, they show a solid consistency, since their emergence in the Middle Ages, linking the modern city with its roots – it is a story of the city history told from an other angle.

The lecture shall be held on Thursday, 26th November at 18:30 in the Dvorana Matice hrvatske, Strossmayerov trg 4

We cordially invite you and are looking forward to you attendance!

If you think someone you know might be interested, please forward this invitation.
