The History Students Association "Ivan Lučić - Lucius" and the Croatian Studies of the Zagreb University organized the 6th scientific colloquium Dies historiae with topic "Water and its role though history", on 10 December 2008 on the University Campus in Borongaj, Zagreb. The secretary of out Society, Mrs Matea Brstilo Rešetar held a lecture titled

Military Nobility Coats of Arms - Testimonies of the wars against the Turks

on Thursday, 27 November 2008 at 18.30 h, Matica hrvatska, Strossmayerov trg 4.

It is a very interesting lecture that she presented on the International Congress of Heraldry and Genealogy in Quebec City in June 2008, a summary of which you may have had chance to read in the last issue of the GiZ.

An article by Davor Zovko, in which this sucessful heraldic expert and artist living in Sweden, provides and introduction into heraldry in a very plain and popular way. It was originally issued, in somewhat shortened version in the infloght magazine of the Croatian airline company Croatia Airlines (www.croatiaairlines.com), ”Croatia”, Autumn 2008. Here issued with the magazine permition, with some additions and a larger number of author's illustrations of the coats of arms. Currently in Croatian only - to be translated soon.  read more »

After a period of lower level activity in our section "# Photos of coats of arms and flags", we bring you almost hundred new photos of coats of arms and flags taken in public places around the county. You may find among them stone-carved coats of arms decorating the walls of our cities, flags preserved in museums, coats of arms painted on road signs and flags hoisted at prominent palces in almost six hundred communities, cities and counties in Croatia.

Of course, many coats of arms and flags are still missing, and we need your help here. Grab a camera, take shots at coats of arms and flags in your place and send them to us - help us fill in this photo gallery.

Republika Srpska Coat of Arms 2008 As we reported here earealier, on 14 June 2007 the Republic of Srpska within the Bosnia and Herzegovina dropped from the use its official coat of arms and its anthem by the decision of the Constitutional Court of B&H. Since then an official emblem was in temporary use and the search for the new symbols followed. As it was reported by the FENA news agency and was transmitted by many media (for example www.bljesak.info) on 15 June 2008 the People's Assembly of the Republic of Srpska adopted a new coat of arms and a new anthem.

The new anthem is titled "Moja Republika" (My Republic) by Mladen Matović from Banja Luka.

The adopted design of the coat of arms is one of the five finalist designs proposed to the Assembly in September 2007, with minor adjustments, apparently proposed by Nenad Kosanin from Belgrade.  read more »
